A recent moment with a stranger left me inspired, and in deeper contemplation of the power of eye contact. Specifically the potency that can be shared at a distance between two people, without the need for words. Sometimes it takes only a brief moment for feelings of attraction, desire, longing, lust, or other vulnerable feelings to be unveiled. Here are some words I caressed together while thinking about my experiences of visually connecting with another human:
The twinkle of eyes leaning in from a distance. An unexpected pulling that tantalizes the senses, awakening something within. The glance of a stranger, held beyond the point of mere recognition. A little shimmer of desire, peeking out from a window into the soul's protective shell.
Attraction can be so mysterious and elusive, while at other times plain and blatant in it's predictability. We might pass a thousand faces, none catching more than the slightest of our curiosity. And then there's the one that sparks. The flash of an eye, a prolonged look, a simple gesture. Our attention is ignited, mind captured by an unconstrained moment of potential.
An everyday encounter that unexpectedly lights a spark within the dry tinder of the heart. Caught up in the possibility of eye contact, held for too long. The bold eyes of a stranger, forging sudden connection through thin air. Breath poised in the moment, while the imagination runs wild with the heart.
Attempting to decipher the meaning. Questioning our own sense of knowing. Self doubt looming like a cloud, while at the same time bathed in little quivers of delicious possibility. How can a routine interaction have the potential to become so potently persuasive and overwhelming? At times dizzying, opening us up, swelling our hearts, and inspiring our imaginations?
There is such potent mystery in the subtle complexity of human connection. In my experience this is especially true for visual touch. Vast amounts can be communicated via near imperceivable subtleties of expression. When pausing to consider the magic that can transpire though eye contact, that which can transform the world behind our eyes in an instant, I am truly dazzled. I am in constant awe of the universe that is the human experience, the incredible complexity in which we are all continually swimming together.
Just for fun, Eyes Of A Stranger,
